# Future proof: How Ratio EV’s io8 is Enabling Efficient, Expandable, EV Charging

When ThermoFisher Scientific began exploring EV charging options, they faced several challenges.
The global life, science and clinical research organisation’s site in Hemel Hempstead is a key facility for critical research and pharmaceutical product testing; unlimited power and reliable infrastructure is a must.
Enter London EV Chargers and Ratio EV with the solution to ThermoFisher’s EV charging needs:
- Immediate charging capability with built-in expansion potential
- Critical power management due to sensitive laboratory equipment
- Ability to limit charging access to staff and authorised visitors only
- Maintaining site aesthetics and functionality
## A Lightbulb Moment
Ratio EV’s io8 charging system proved ideal for the site, offering elegant design with built-in illumination alongside practical functionality.
Three io8 dual charging units were installed earlier this year, providing six charging sockets and, thanks to London EV Chargers, the infrastructure for an additional six sockets for future expansion.
The io8’s dynamic load management system protects critical site power needs, while QR code-based access controls who is able to use the chargers.
Not only that, the system is friendly for the business and users too, with app-based access for drivers and integration with the Wevo back-office management system.
## Powering Ahead
In just 11 working days (and despite the typical British weather providing an extra challenge), installation was complete.
Meticulous planning from London EV Chargers, including two detailed site surveys, power requirement analysis, load management planning, ground scanning for underground utilities, site preparation and safety set-up, meant the project proceeded smoothly without technical complications.
And the results speak for themselves. Since installation, ThermoFisher is reporting:
- Enhanced staff productivity due to eliminating charging-related absences
- Improved visitor experience with on-site charging availability
- Future-ready infrastructure that can grow with demand
- Efficient power management protecting critical laboratory operations
**The Future is Electric**
The ThermoFisher installation demonstrates the value of careful planning and selecting the right products for specific site requirements. Already seeing daily usage from at least three vehicles, the company is well-positioned to expand their charging capability as EV adoption continues to grow among its staff and visitors.
Steve Joseph, Director at London EV Chargers, noted: "The io8 chargers were very well received by ThermoFisher. Everyone who saw them commented on how nice they look, particularly appreciating the integrated lighting feature that illuminates the parking area."
